why to forgive spirit

By: Missy Marston

After someone has passed, if you carry anger, resentment, hatred, or blame in your heart, the only person you’re hurting is yourself. How satisfying is it for those who have hurt you to say they’re sorry, and then for you to forgive them? Unfortunately, those who have passed cannot conveniently say they’re sorry. That’s why is it up to you to forgive them nonetheless.

You hold the power to forgive, and this forgiveness ultimately benefits yourself! Taking the weight of thinking about someone negatively off your shoulders is an enormous relief, and takes unnecessary negativity out of your life. Good riddance, right?

When we die, or ‘pass into the next room’, we get to experience a life review. This review goes over your life through your eyes, and through everyone else’s eyes as well. So, when we pass we get to know how much someone loved us, how those we have hurt have felt, how your parents felt when they first held you, etc. These reviews are very detailed and not only show you how you’ve lived but also lets you feel it. It shows the impact you had on others, even if it was a brief encounter you didn’t notice. There is no judgment through all this, it is simply to understand your growth as a soul.

Therefore, your passed loved ones already know your side of whatever story keeps you resentful and upset. They understand, and want you to let go of the pain so that you can be free from it. Forgive yourself, forgive them, and learn to let go.

Something I like to do is the ‘fake it ‘til you make it’ technique. Keep a picture of your passed loved one in your home (if you don’t already). Every time you pass the picture, look at it, or think of the one you’ve lost, simply say ‘I forgive you’. This helps them in the ‘other room’ and helps you in the present one; for them to know your pain makes them hurt.

No matter what someone has done in your life, there is always room for forgiveness. Stop the cycle of negativity and let it all go. Remember, love and light!
