The Spiritual Side of Trees

By: Missy Marston

Just like everything else, trees are energy. They have auras, give off low, deep vibrational frequencies, and are the poster children for grounding! Not only do trees turn carbon dioxide into clean oxygen, they also transmute negative energies into positive ones as well as emit a frequency that allows you to ground yourself easily.

Trees have always been present in spirituality all the way from the far west to the far east. Most think of the tree of knowledge in relation to Christianity, where Adam and Eve picked the forbidden fruit, but think of the Bodhi tree that Buddha sat under that is often touched upon in Buddhism, or the tree of life from the Celtic culture, which symbolizes Heaven and Earth and the utter importance of trees in Druid living. The recognition of the power and energy of trees is well known everywhere and has been for a long time, and some cultures even protect and revere trees as wise, living embodiments of time. A lot of medicines also come from the bark, fruit, and leaves of trees, like from the Socotran tree – used for dysentery, diarrhea, and fever by the Romans in the first century, BC, or from the Alder tree still used for astringent to this day!

The Spiritual Side of Trees

Trees are the ultimate meditators. Sitting amongst trees, touching trees, being on a tree – these are all great ways to clear your energy channels, calm your mind, feel safe and stabilized, ground yourself, get into a deeper state of meditation, and increase your vitality! There are plenty of studies showing that how you feel around a plant, what music you play, and in what tone you speak to it in have an affect on how the plant grows and feels, so be sure to treat it as you would a friend. When you are using trees for grounding, meditation, etc., remember to say a prayer, preform reiki or other healing, or however else you want to show gratitude to the tree. A simple thought of ‘thank you’ is enough to raise your vibration, raise the trees vibration, and can benefit your karma.

The larger the tree and the closer to water, the stronger the energy. Pine trees are great because they emanate strong chi and nurture not only your body, but also your soul, but really any tree will do. Trees that are used to having humans around are more easily accessible than trees deep, deep in the forest that may not have much experience with the energies of humans.

Trees are old, wise, energetic beings that soak up the energy of the sun, use the sun, ground, and water as nourishment, and ground themselves deep into the earth – they are strong beings that are often overlooked. So go outside today and hug a tree – and don’t forget to thank it!
