The Secrets of Tibetan Singing Bowls

By: Missy Marston

The history and introduction of Tibetan singing bowls are clouded with mystery, as is the proper use of one – unless you are a practiced Tibetan monk. Some speculate that the resonating sound, when mixed with chanting, would get you in touch with ‘the Void’ by giving off the vibrations and the sound of the universe manifesting. Another reported use is to induce astral projection, allowing those practiced in spirituality and meditation to travel out of their bodies from places on Earth to planets far outside of our solar system.

The Secrets of Tibetan Singing Bowls

Tibetan singing bowls are also used for healing. Specific tones are used for chakra balancing, stress relief, spontaneous healing, a greater sense of peace, clarity of mind and body, deep relaxation, and they are even used in Reiki! Dis-ease is typically caused by the disharmony of your body – an imbalance. Tibetan singing bowls send out a harmonious vibration, allowing your cells and imbalances to regain synchronization.

These bowls are made out of seven different metals: lead, iron, tin, gold, copper, silver, and mercury.

  • Lead – Root Chakra (1st) – C Key
  • Iron – Sacral Chakra (2nd) – D key
  • Tin – Solar Plexus Chakra (3rd) – E Key
  • Gold – Heart Chakra (4th) – F Key
  • Copper – Throat Chakra (5th) – G Key
  • Silver – Third Eye Chakra (6th) – A Key
  • Mercury – Crown Chakra (7th) – B Key

The Secrets of Tibetan Singing Bowls

As the energy from the vibrations hit each of your chakras, you may begin to feel strong sensations in each of them. Tibetan singing bowls are great if you’re trying to get a feel of the energy of your chakras, and know what it is to have them in harmony.

Each tone made by a singing bowl will affect everyone differently at different times. Sometimes you will feel yourself drawn to the sound of one, and another day you may feel a different one resonates more deeply, so if you’re not connecting with the tone of your bowl, consider getting a different one! Because of this, each bowl will effect your chakras differently, and maybe not in the same way as someone else. A bowl that works wonders for my heart chakra may work wonders for your solar plexus chakra, and for someone else’s throat chakra!

Personally, I like to use my singing bowl for deep mediation. Keeping my body busy while my mind is buzzing with the frequency helps me to quickly slip into deeper meditation for longer. They make beautiful sounds, and most handcrafted bowls are beautifully detailed. So, try it out!
