How To Use A Pendulum

By: Missy Marston

I covered the basics of pendulums in this article, but do you know what you can ask your pendulum?

Begin by meditating. This will help you create an easy channel for you intuition, higher self, and spirit guides to come through.

Make sure your pendulum is cleansed and clear of previous energies it may have picked up on its way to you.

When you are ready to begin, take three deep, centering breaths. Keep your feet flat on the floor, and keep your back as straight as possible.

If you haven’t already, find out what is yes, no, and maybe. You can either ask the pendulum, or tell it.

Do a practice run of the yes, no, and maybe. Ask questions like ‘is my name ____?’, ‘is today (day of the week)?’, or ‘am I (place)?’

Now, tell your pendulum where it will get its information from. Say, either out loud or in your head, “I ask that my higher self be present to answer these questions. I ask only for the truth, and will use this information for the highest good.” You don’t have to say this verbatim, just something along those lines.

Now, you’re ready to ask your question! Remember that you are using your intuition and contacting your higher self when using a pendulum, so only ask questions about what you have control over. Don’t ask if your mom will get you that hat you really want for your birthday, because you have no control over the situation. Instead, ask something like ‘will I like what my mom gets me for my birthday?’ because you do have control over your future feelings. But always remember: the future is ever-changing. What will happen tomorrow can change in a second in the now!

You can ask about anything you have control over and that can be answered by yes or no. The bigger the swing, the more confident the answer!

If your pendulum isn’t responding, try rephrasing the question, but always remember to be patient.

When you are finished with a question, be sure to touch the pendulum to the ground or to your hand to signal that you are ready to move on to the next question.

Have fun swinging out there! Try to use your pendulum at least once a day, and you’ll be a natural in no time! Love and light to you all!
