Do Dogs Have Chakras?

By: Missy Marston

We know that all living things have chakras, but have you thought that your pets have chakras as well? Of course they do!

As we know, Chakras are energy centers that help balance our spiritual and our grounded selves. When our chakras are closed or out of balance, we can feel wacky and not-ourselves. So if your dog is acting out of whack, you may want to check their chakras! General stress, from hearing other dogs bark, wondering where their humans are, or seeing strangers walk down the street, can cause your puppies chakras to go out of balance. When working on dogs, it is important to remember to focus on all of the chakras, not just one. The goal is to align all of the chakras and promote balance.

Dogs have seven chakra centers, just like us! In addition to those they also have the nose chakra, ear chakra, paw chakra, and tail chakra – these are the senses that dogs use to gather extra information, and are therefore important to balance.

The Seven Chakras

  1. Root Chakra: When balanced, dogs feel comfortable, safe at home, and grounded. Your dog will act confident and comfortable around people. If your dog acts nervous and fearful, guards their toys and food aggressively, or is territorial, you need to balance their root chakra.
  2. Sacral Chakra: When balanced, dogs will feel comfortable with their emotions and how they express them. If your dog doesn’t like to snuggle, be touched, or acts cold towards you, you need to balance their sacral chakra. You also need to balance their sacral chakra if they are hyper and over emotional as well! It’s all about balance.
  3. Solar Plexus Chakra: If your dog is timid, shy, insecure, or (at the other end of the spectrum) overly confident, aggressive, dominating, pushy, or bossy towards other dogs, their solar plexus chakra is out of balance. When balanced, your dog will display the appropriate dynamic in their group.
  4. Heart Chakra: It doesn’t seem like a dogs heart chakra can be over active, as it is the center for love, kindness, and affection. Your dog’s heart chakra may be out of balance if they act cold, emotionless, and distant from you.
  5. Throat Chakra: Do you find you dog barking all the time with no provocation? Or have you noticed that your dog hasn’t yet ‘found their voice’? Their throat chakra may be out of line! Dogs with a balanced throat chakra let their needs be known and appropriately express themselves, but don’t over do it with barking and whining.
  6. Third Eye Chakra: With an unbalanced third eye chakra, your dog will either rely on you for everything, or will only want to play, play, play – like a young puppy. When the third eye chakra is opened and balanced, your dog will live comfortably amongst people and other animals.
  7. Crown Chakra: If your dog seems to keep away from other dogs, or is always nervous around them, their crown chakra is out of balance. Dogs with a balanced crown chakra know their place in the world, are aware of it, and fit in with other groups of dogs easily, because they know they’re ‘one of them’.

The Four Dog Chakras

  1. Nose Chakra: The nose is a very important tool for a dog, they can smell exponentially more than we can! When the nose chakra is out of balance, their nose will appear dry and cracked and the dog will appear frustrated. Opening it will allow for a wetted nose and access to all their scent glands!
  2. Ear Chakra: The ear chakra is linked to communication and connection. When this chakra is closed or imbalanced, dogs cannot access their full hearing potentiality! If your dog seems constantly stressed, even after opening and balancing their seven main chakras, you may need to balance this one as well.
  3. Paw Chakra: Similar to the root chakra, the paw chakra is about the connection to mother earth and grounding. When the paw chakras are opened, there is a clear, unhindered connection to mother earth and flow of energy between your dog and the earth.
  4. Tail Chakra: The tail chakra is like an extension of the root chakra, and also connects to the throat chakra due to the fact that dogs also communicate with their tails. Their tails help them to communicate, feel grounded, and feel safe. Opening and balancing this chakra will help your dog to connect to their higher chakras and stay balanced.

So, how in the world do I balance and open my dog’s chakras?

It’s easy! Find some time to wind down and a quiet place to sit with your puppy. Make sure your dog feels safe and at ease in this room, sit and pet them until you both feel relaxed and in tune with each other. Imagine a bright light coming from your heart center, and one coming from your dog’s heart center, and see them combine and swirl as one. Hold your hands slightly over your dog’s fur. Allow all the love you feel for your dog to join the light from your heart, make its way to your hands, and pour out of your hands into your dog. Feel free to stop when you think you are done, when your dog complains, or when they simply get up and walk away. Even if they walk away, end the balancing by imagining your heart chakra slowly receding and do the same for your dog. Now, thank your dog for allowing you to share you gift and for them to receive it. You’re done! You’ve balanced your dog’s chakras!

Remember, this is no substitute for vet care! If you think something is really wrong with your beloved pup, take them to a vet!
